  • New: Referred to as ‘one-trip’ containers by the shipping industry, these units are brand new from the factory and have not been utilized by a cargo shipping or storage rental company.

    Cargo (Rental) Grade: Wind and water tight with rubber door seals competely in tact. Typically cosmetically superior to the wind/water tight units. Our rental fleet consists primarily of (recently) new containers and cargo grade units (some recently painted).

    Wind/Water Tight: Structurally solid, good/non-leaking roof, sides, floor. May have some surface rust and/or compromised door seal. Most commonly used at construction sites or for landscaping equipment.

    As-Is: Functional onsite storage, but may have some defects that make it unsuitable for some applications.

    Double Door

    Containers with a set of cargo doors on both ends are typically referred to as “double-door” or “DD” containers. These open fully from end-to-end and can be desirable for a variety of applications. These are available from the factory in 20′ and 40′ sizes. We are also able to take a single door container and modify it with an overhead-style door on one end, giving it some double-ended function.

    Open Side

    “Openside” containers typically feature a standard set of cargo door on one or both ends, but one long side opens with a multi-part door that can be opened partially or fully. For example, on a 20′ x 8′ container, the standard cargo doors will open the 8′ end, and the multi-part doors will open one of the 20′ long sides. Openside containers are often used for applications where side loading is desired, but they also lend themselves to creative uses such as mobile display cases. Page Street Leasing currently carries 20′ openside containers, although 40′ units are obtainable by special order.


    Insulated containers are built differently than the typical cargo container. They are constructed with a similar steel frame, but instead of corrugated steel sides, they have smooth, aluminum exterior siding and insulated interior walls. These containers are airtight with inoperable refrigerator units, so while an interior temperature can not be set, the insulation helps to stabilize the interior temperature range. Although these are not “climate controlled”, they provide extra protection for contents against condensation, mold, and wide temperature fluctuations.

  • New vs Used

    When purchasing a container, consider the following questions:

    1. Where will the container be used?
    2. What will be stored inside?
    3. How visible will it be to yourself or neighbors?
    4. How long do you intend to use it?
    5. What is your budget?

    Prospective buyers all have different answers to those questions and those answers will determine if a new container or used container will suit their individual needs.

    Generally, a residential customer will obtain a container as an alternative to self-storage or a backyard shed. In a situation where more household items will be stored in the container, or if the container is going to be routinely visible to the home occupants or neighbors, a new or freshly painted used container is the more popular option. However, if the container is going to be somewhat out-of-sight and used to store lawnmowers, tractors, and other outdoor supplies, a dry, cargo grade container may work well.

    Containers are built to rugged ISO standards and are designed to withstand harsh, ocean-going conditions, with regular equipment handling. Stationary storage use on dry land is a low duty cycle use for these units. It’s not uncommon to find dry, functioning containers that are over 30 years old.


    Aside from aesthetic differences, most newer containers feature a few functional differences from the older, cargo units. Most newer containers have lock boxes installed for extra security and extra side vents for greater interior air flow from the factory. Some new units also have long-handle door handles for easier door operation and grease fittings on the hinges to ensure smooth operation over the years.

    A new container should provide decades of virtually maintenance-free function, save for occasional door lubrication. Depending upon condition and any refurbishing steps already taken, a used container should also have a long functional life and may only require minor periodic maintenance. This may include refreshing the paint, making sure that surface rust doesn’t continue to oxidize unchecked, and repairs to the rubber door gasket/seal.

    A used container’s price (and estimated functional life remaining) depends more upon its overall condition and how ‘well used’ it had been previously, rather than the manufacture date. There are containers in our rental fleet that are in better condition than some cargo units that are 10 years newer. This is primarily due to the unit entering our rental fleet as a new container and having a lower duty cycle than a newer container that has had years of ocean cargo use. We occasionally sell the rental fleet units as well, but they are priced according to their overall condition, instead of age.

    For most homes and long-term storage scenarios, we would recommend either purchasing a new unit or a used one that has been painted. For some homes, camps, business, or agricultural applications, a used cargo grade container will provide all of the utility needed for many years.

    What sizes are sold?

    We offer a variety of sizes:

    The 20’ and 40’ lengths are the most common. We also carry “high cube” models, which are 1-foot taller than the standard height (9’6” vs 8’6”) for the 40’ and 45’ lengths.

    We also stock some specialized containers such double-door units, open-side units, and 20’ high cubes. Some models may require a special order, so please contact us to check for availability.

    How is the container delivered?

    The 10’ and 20’ containers are delivered using a flatbed straight truck, similar to a car carrier. These are typically able to get into tighter areas and residential locations. A minimum of approximately 50’ is required to deliver with this truck. The typical delivery involves the truck backing into your desired spot, tilting the truck bed to place the end of the container on the ground, and the truck slowly driving forward while the container remains stationary, sliding off the truck bed.

    The 40’ and 45’ containers are delivered using a large semi tractor with a flatbed trailer. Being a much larger vehicle with a considerably long wheelbase, it is usually restricted to more open delivery locations with large enough roads and driveway openings to accommodate the large turning radius required by a semi tractor-trailer. Since the container, the tractor, and the trailer all have to be in a line when the container is delivered, a minimum of 100’ is required to deliver a container with this truck. Once in place, the process is similar to the smaller truck. The flatbed trailer is tilted, placing the end of the container on the ground, and the truck slowly driving forward while the container remains stationary, slowly sliding off the back of the trailer.

    Is any site prep required?

    Some locations have an area that can accommodate a container, and others may have to prepare a spot. The composition of the delivery surface shouldn’t matter (gravel, grass, pavement), provided it meets the following requirements:


    The ground should be firm enough such that the container doesn’t sink much when loaded. It should also be able to support the weight of the delivery truck. Please be aware that the truck tires may affect soft ground and that Page Street Leasing can not be held responsible for impact to the property.
    Level. The delivery spot should be fairly level, at least to the point where a few inches of blocking can mitigate any differences from side to side. Placing a container on uneven ground can make the heavy doors difficult to open and close.


    The delivery spot should be large enough to fit the delivery truck, depending upon which size container is purchased. The smaller truck (for 10’ and 20’ containers) requires at least 50’ in a straight line to deliver, and the larger truck (40’+ containers) requires a minimum of 100’ in a straight line to deliver. The driver will attempt to place the container where directed, but an alternative spot is sometimes necessary.

    Can you place the container on wood, blocks, etc.?

    Yes, the delivery driver can place the container upon wood (pressure-treated recommended), cinder blocks, or other appropriate materials. This is recommended if the container will be stationary for long periods of time.

    Where do the doors face?

    The door end of the container may be loaded either facing the front of the truck, or hanging-off the back of the truck for delivery. Door orientation depends upon how the delivery truck will enter your site, and which direction the doors should be facing when the container is delivered and the truck pulls away. We can load them which ever way works best for your space and needs. We also carry double-door containers with a set of cargo doors on each end.
